Opportunities From: Sister-Corps

An EF4 tornado touched down in Mississippi in the spring of 2023. Much devastation occurred in several locations within the state. One area that experienced such devastation is Rolling Fork, MS. It was reported that 68% of area residents were renters at the time of the tornado.

The recovery process for these “rental residents” has been slow. Assistance for lost or damaged rental properties and tenants’ personal items is very limited or non-existent.

Rolling Fork Rising is a local nonprofit that has a vision: to provide new homes for former renters that can be purchased at a discounted price. RFR’s goal is to have the new homeowner’s monthly mortgage payment, taxes, and insurance cost approximately the same as they were paying for rent prior to the tornado—about $600 per month with a 20-year mortgage at 0% interest.

Sister-Corps will partner, for a second time, with Rolling Fork Rising to continue the construction of homes for former renters to buy in Rolling Fork. As a volunteer, you will help with construction and support tasks as assigned—no experience is required, just a willingness to work, learn, and serve.

Housing will be dorm-style with bunk beds (lower bunks for all volunteers), a shower trailer (6 showers), kitchen, dining, and meeting space.

Meals are provided Sunday night through Friday night. Our Meal Team works hard to accommodate a range of dietary needs whenever possible.

Please leave pets at home in their safe, familiar surroundings.

San Angelo, TX (Tom Green County) experienced a devastating flood event July 4, 2025, on the northern and eastern portions of the city where 10 to 15 inches fell, marking this as the highest one-day rainfall total recorded in the city's history. A flash flood affected 12,102 structures and 6,157 individual parcels, resulting in the city, being declared a natural disaster area. Homes and buildings were submerged in waters as deep as 15 feet in some places.

Sister-Corps will partner with local disaster relief organizations to provide rebuilding assistance throughout the community.

Project Director: Lynn Boykin and Project Director Academy participants (1/2026 class)

Your team will consist of both seasoned volunteers and eager learners under the direction of a team lead.

Project Dates

March 19, 2026 (Thursday): Advance team arrives to review work and create team assignments.

March 20, 2026 (Friday): Meal Team Leader and Medical Team Lead arrive.

March 22, 2026 (Sunday): Volunteer Check-In between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. 
                                                        Power Tool Safety Verification Testing — TBD. 
                                                        Please watch your email for information on this testing.

Please do not arrive before your assigned time as the advance team will be preparing the site.

March 23 thru March 27, 2026 (Monday thru Friday):  Workdays in the San Angelo, TX area.

March 28, 2026 (Saturday): Break down camp and travel home. Departure before 11:00 am.

Registration Details

Sunday through Saturday.

Cost:  $138.00  non-refundable but transferable.

The fee includes accommodations, meals and the required T-shirt uniform. Our Meal Team accommodates a broad range of dietary needs to ensure everyone is well-fed and ready to work. Meals will be provided Sunday night thru Friday night.

NOTE: Mealtimes double as group meetings and training sessions, as needed.
